Critics have praised his new movie She's Funny That Way as a return to form.
And Owen Wilson
was certainly back to his best as he greeted his adoring fans at the Venice Film Festival on Friday night.
The 45-year-old lapped up the attention as he walked the red carpet at the world's oldest film festival alongside his co-stars Kathryn Hahn and director Peter Bogdanovich.
Wearing a charcoal suit, black and white tie, white shirt and suede trainers, Owen
looked at ease in front of the cameras.
The movie - Bogdanovich's first film in 13 years - has already won the acclaim of movie reviewers following its debut on Friday.
Being hailed as a return to classic screwball comedy, the film centres on a call girl and aspiring actress, played by Imogen Poots, who gets a part in a Broadway production directed by a client, played by Owen Wilson
, famous for his zany roles in Zoolander and Meet The Fockers, has admitted that he found the zany script hard to keep up with at points.
He said: 'One person's going out this door, here's another person — when you're actually doing it, it does kind of make you funny.
'There's an excitement where it feels like sports a little bit. I think it appeals to the little kid in you who likes that kind of performing.'
Parks and Recreation star Kathryn added: 'It demanded a surrender to a genre that is a little nostalgic. I just knew it was going to be different comedy muscles.'
