Owen Wilson laps up the attention as he promotes his new comedy movie at the Venice Film Festival

Critics have praised his new movie She's Funny That Way as a return to form.

And Owen Wilson was certainly back to his best as he greeted his adoring fans at the Venice Film Festival on Friday night.

The 45-year-old lapped up the attention as he walked the red carpet at the world's oldest film festival alongside his co-stars Kathryn Hahn and director Peter Bogdanovich.

Wearing a charcoal suit, black and white tie, white shirt and suede trainers, Owen looked at ease in front of the cameras.

The movie - Bogdanovich's first film in 13 years - has already won the acclaim of movie reviewers following its debut on Friday.

Being hailed as a return to classic screwball comedy, the film centres on a call girl and aspiring actress, played by Imogen Poots, who gets a part in a Broadway production directed by a client, played by Owen Wilson.

Owen, famous for his zany roles in Zoolander and Meet The Fockers, has admitted that he found the zany script hard to keep up with at points.

He said: 'One person's going out this door, here's another person — when you're actually doing it, it does kind of make you funny.

'There's an excitement where it feels like sports a little bit. I think it appeals to the little kid in you who likes that kind of performing.'

Parks and Recreation star Kathryn added: 'It demanded a surrender to a genre that is a little nostalgic. I just knew it was going to be different comedy muscles.'
